Shrieval Chain Appeals 2026
At Common Hall on 24 June 2026, Alderman Prem Goyal CBE and Alderman Tim Levine were elected to serve as Sheriffs of the City for 2026/27. They will be admitted as Sheriffs on 28 September. Each sheriff wears a chain and badge of office but unlike those of the Livery Masters, each sheriff commissions, designs and pays for their own chain and badge. The design usually references the professional and personal interests of the sheriff, as well as their coat of arms and the Livery Companies to which they belong.
Friends and supporters donate towards the cost of the chain and badge as a way of showing their support and the tradition has grown up of the sheriffs circulating a "Chain appeal letter" giving details of how donations may be made. The badges and chains are usually unveiled at the beginning of September and are then worn for the year the sheriff is in office.
The Chain Appeal Letters for this year's sheriffs are below, should you wish to support them in this way.
