February was a bumper month for Scriveners receiving the Freedom of the City of London
Four of our newest Freemen (all women) received the Freedom of the City of London in ceremonies during February and March. They will then be admitted to the Livery during the Court meetings in March and July.
The waiting room for the Chamberlain's Court at Guildhall houses a Scriveners' Barge Flag from 1760.
The Clerk was able to attend one of the ceremonies to welcome the City's "youngest freeman" as the new Freeman of the City is known, regardless of number of years lived, and usually only for half an hour, until the next ceremony has taken place. The Assistant Clerk and the Beadle to the Court were the first to extend the right hand of fellowship to the new Freeman.
