Quill Pen Reception, Wednesday 12 February 2025

by Linzi James 13 Feb 2025

What a wonderful celebration we had  at the Church of St mary-le-Bow. Firstly we presented the Sheriffs of the City of London, Alderman & Sheriff Gregory Jones KC and Sheriff David Chalk, with the quills they had used to sign themselves into office.

These are unlikely to be used on a daily basis, so we also presented each of them with a fountain pen by A.T. Cross.

We took the opportunity to make our annual donation in support of the work of the Sheriffs' and Recorder's Fund (https://sr-fund.org/), which makes grants to former prisoners and their families to help prevent re-offending. The charity is increasingly also providing funding to deliver training aimed at rehabilitation during incarceration.

During the evening we welcomed the four winners and the four runners-up of our Handwriting Competition. The students came from St Paul's Cathedral School, City of London Freemen's School, City of London School and City of London School for Girls. If you know a secondary school which would be interested in joining the competition next year, do let us know. During the reception which followed the presentations there was an opportunity for members and guests to view the manuscripts written by the students.
Following the reception some members of the Company and their guests continued in fellowship by enjoying a meal together.
