Lenten Livery Prison Walk - Monday 23 March 2026
The Master Scrivener participated in a sponsored walk from the Old Bailey to HMP Brixton in aid of the Sheriffs’ and Recorder’s Fund. He, along with a number of other Livery Company Officers, visited the prison and were released on good behaviour after meeting the Governor and some of the prisoners. The initiative, organised by Sheriff Robert Hughes-Penney and his wife, Elspeth, seeks to raise funds but also to spread the word about the charity and the excellent projects it funds, helping to rehabilitate ex-offenders and increase their chances of achieving quality employment on leaving prison.

On the way to the prison the group visited XO Barbers/XO Bikes, a charity which trains and provides work to former prisoners – more on them here

The group met the Governor of the prison, Mia Wheeler, who was very generous with her time and is clearly dedicated to rehabilitating offenders so that they can build normal lives again after prison. For those who are interested, there is an interview with the Governor on Youtube which is accessible HERE
