Autumn Dinner, October 2024
22 Jan 2025
Tuesday 15 October 2024, Apothecaries’ Hall
The Company’s Autumn dinner was held at Apothecaries’ Hall. The oldest Livery Hall in the City, it stands on the site of what was, until the dissolution of the monasteries, a
Dominican Priory of Black Friars. The buildings were bought by the Apothecaries in 1632 and destroyed in the Great Fire. A new building was in use by 1672. A major refurbishment was undertaken in the late 18th Century when an “Elaboratory” was added to meet demand for pharmaceutical products - the world’s first ‘large-scale’ drug manufacturing plant.

Excellent musical entertainment was provided by the Soprano Anna-Luise Wagner, and her accompanist Adam Cigman-Mark. The principal guest speaker was Sir Martin Griffiths, High Court Judge and Presiding Judge of Wales, who provided a very engaging and interesting speech with a number of references to his career at the Bar and as a judge.
It is always a great pleasure to visit the Apothecaries Hall, and this was no exception, it was well-attended and with the great hospitality one always enjoys at the hall.
